"Do I book a lesson or figure it out myself?" It's the first question nearly everyone starting has. Here are the real options — and who each is for.
Your real options, no fluff
- Private lesson (with me). A coach just for you or your small group (1 to 4). The pace and corrections are yours; you progress fast. The investment, not the cheapest.
- Group lesson (with me). A bigger group of friends or a company team: cheaper per head, social and dynamic, and you also learn from other people's mistakes.
- A friend teaching you. Free and fun, but a good rider can't always explain why the board does what it does — and often passes on their own quirks.
- Videos and apps. Good for ideas and theory at home; useless for correcting what you're doing wrong in the moment.
Why a lesson wins for most people
Learning to snowboard is mostly about losing the fear and finding a solid base turn as early as possible. That happens with someone who sees you, picks the one thing holding you back, and fixes it — ideally with video, so you see yourself. If you want to progress tailored to you, go private; if you're a group and want fun and savings, go group.
When free is enough
If you already ride down comfortably and just want mileage and fun, a friend and YouTube will do. For the first days — or to get unstuck — it pays more to start well than to correct habits later.
