A family lesson is one of my favourite things to teach and one of the easiest to get wrong. Get it right and everyone leaves buzzing; get it wrong and one person spends the morning shivering on the side while another gets bored. The difference is almost always in how it's set up, not who's in it — and setting it up so a whole family comes off the snow grinning together is honestly the part of this job I love most, and the part I'm best at.
From age 8 — and why
Children start with me from age 8. It isn't an arbitrary number: below it, most kids don't yet have the strength or coordination to steer a board on their own, and the lesson becomes a fight against gravity rather than fun. From eight up, they pick it up remarkably fast — often faster than the adults, which they enjoy pointing out.
Up to four, one flat price
A family lesson is the same shape as any other: 1 to 4 riders, one price for the slot (Season 2026/27):
- One hour — CHF 110
- Two hours — CHF 200
- Four hours — CHF 385
A family of four pays the same as a single rider and splits it four ways. For most families that's the best value on the hill.
When levels are far apart
Here's the honest part. A dad who has never strapped in and an eleven-year-old who already links turns are not the same lesson, even with the same surname. Trying to teach them as one group means one of them is always waiting.
So when levels differ, I split the time inside the session: I'll get the beginner safe and moving, set the confident kid a task they can chew on solo for a few minutes, then swap. For bigger gaps I'll suggest two shorter slots or one private and a shared finish. You'll always know the plan before we clip in.
Making it fun, not a test
- Small wins first. Standing up, the first slide, the first stop — we celebrate each one, especially with kids.
- Warm breaks. For little ones we build in a hot-chocolate stop at COLORS; a cold, tired child learns nothing.
- Video to take home. I film through the lesson and send the clips — families love watching the progress on the drive back.
